Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged voters in Johor to elect leaders who demonstrate integrity, wisdom and humility when wielding power, in order to safeguard the interests of lower-income and grassroots communities. Addressing a Pakatan Harapan rally in Muar on June 15, he cautioned that the calibre of elected representatives significantly shapes a state's trajectory, and warned against political movements that stoke racial divisions to secure votes before abandoning their constituents once in office.
Anwar stressed that successful politics depends on an informed electorate that rejects divisive messaging. "For politics to succeed, people must read and listen. Do not exploit sentiments of hatred toward others," he said, urging voters to consider the long-term implications for the nation, future generations, education and healthcare.
The Prime Minister emphasized that elected officials must remain grounded after electoral victories and prioritize resolving public grievances, particularly for the disadvantaged. He pointed out that Pakatan Harapan's success in the Johor State Election is essential to align state policies with the Federal Government's development framework, allowing major infrastructure initiatives to benefit ordinary citizens at the grassroots level.
Anwar highlighted major projects including the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and expansion of the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, which the Federal Government has led. He called for state representatives to focus on serving ordinary people rather than worrying about project delivery. "I want the state government, state representatives, and state exco members to take care of the ordinary citizens," he stressed.
Meanwhile, Anwar appealed to Johor residents, including those living elsewhere, to return and vote on July 11, characterizing electoral participation as a responsibility to Johor's future. He underscored that each ballot carries weight in driving policy reforms and ensuring that economic gains are broadly distributed across all segments of society.
