The long-standing housing challenge faced by Bukit Kiara Longhouse residents has been resolved through a permanent housing development project, marking a significant commitment by the government to address long-neglected community concerns, according to Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan. The initiative will grant two complimentary housing units to each qualifying family, directly supporting the urban poor demographic in Kuala Lumpur.
Ramanan, who represents Sungai Buloh in Parliament, emphasised that the Prime Minister's decision represents decisive action against prolonged delays in delivering justice to affected residents. He underscored that while the project's scope may appear limited in scale, its transformative effect on families who have endured extended waiting periods cannot be overstated.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the housing development today, formally launching construction efforts. The announcement also included a commitment of RM1 million from the Prime Minister's office to Kuala Lumpur City Hall for ongoing maintenance and upkeep across a three-year span.
The resettlement dispute had persisted for over 40 years before residents' representatives initiated legal action beginning in 2018. The eventual resolution successfully balanced the housing needs of displaced residents with environmental conservation priorities, preserving Taman Rimba Kiara despite earlier proposals that would have compromised the protected forest area.
