Mohd Radzi Rahimi, 40, who served as Treasurer of Pahang UMNO Youth, was travelling with his wife Nuriani Mohammad Jafri, 36, their five-year-old son Muhammad Rizz Hazim, and his brother-in-law Mohammad Nizam Mohammad Jafri, 35, when the incident occurred around 1 pm. All four occupants perished in the tragedy, leaving the Malaysian political establishment mourning the loss of a rising figure in the party's youth wing.
The family had been returning to Maran in Pahang after spending the weekend participating in a motorcycle programme organised for youth members from the Maran division, which had been held in Pulau Pangkor, Perak. What began as a social and recreational activity with fellow party members ended in heartbreak as unpredictable weather and natural circumstances combined catastrophically on the busy highway corridor. The incident highlighted the ever-present dangers motorists face on Malaysia's roads, even on what would have seemed like a routine journey home with loved ones.
Mohd Radzi's father, Rahimi Abd Samad, 63, spoke to reporters at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital Forensic Unit in Temerloh, expressing the depth of his son's political commitment and the regard in which he was held within UMNO structures. According to the grieving father, his son had invested approximately a decade of his life in the Maran UMNO Youth division before ascending to the position of Youth chief of that branch. His rising prominence within the party's youth cadre eventually led to his appointment as Treasurer of the Pahang UMNO Youth movement, a position of considerable responsibility that reflected his peers' confidence in his administrative capabilities and dedication to party objectives.
Rahimi described his son as exceptionally engaged in political work, noting that his commitment had earned him a substantial circle of supporters and colleagues throughout UMNO membership networks. The son had simply mentioned to his father that he would be joining a motorcycle convoy organised by friends heading to Pulau Pangkor, a casual remark that neither man could have known would precede such tragedy. The ordinariness of that farewell conversation makes the suddenness of the loss even more poignant, as families often experience when accident claims loved ones without warning or final opportunities for meaningful goodbye.
Survival came only to one member of the travelling party, though with devastating consequences. Mohd Radzi's other son, Muhammad Rizz Haziq Mohd Radzi, sustained severe head injuries in the collision and was admitted to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital for ongoing treatment. The boy's condition represented a bittersweet situation in which survival carried the weight of multiple losses, as he recovers in hospital beds while his immediate family members succumb to injuries sustained in the same incident. The contrasting outcomes between family members in identical circumstances underscore the arbitrary cruelty of serious accidents.
Post-mortem examinations on the four deceased individuals concluded at 9 pm the same evening, allowing funeral arrangements to proceed according to Islamic custom and practice. The remains were subsequently transferred to Masjid Kampung Paya Luas in Temerloh for ritual washing and shrouding, the initial stages of Islamic funeral rites that prepare the deceased for their final journey.
