Structural Decay and Soil Issues Led to Collapse of 90-Year-Old Tree in Penang
A 90-year-old Angsana tree collapsed on Jalan Macalister in George Town, injuring an elderly couple and grandchild. Investigators found 30 per cent root rot and 40 per cent cavity decay in the base, worsened by soil compaction and infrastructure work.
